Utramarathon and back pain

Time to run again. I have been out of commission for 6 months now. I injured my back and spent months recuperating. Now I am back to minimal pain and itching to run. I ran last night for 20 minutes and it felt great. I am now on the 7 year pan to run the western states 100. The first goal is to run a marathon before the new year. After not running for 6 months I think this is an attainable goal. We will see.

Run On!

New Car

Finally traded in the VW. Got a Honda Civic SI.

Nice four door car that is super quick and ridiculously fun to drive. It is very hard to get used to a car that likes to live in the upper rpms. I am sure there is a speeding ticket waiting for us in the near future. The six speed manual is a blast!

Ultramarathon Revisited

OK I may have bitten off more than I can chew. I started reading the training schedule for an ultra marathon and realized that I am no where near ready for that. It has been three months since I ran in the Nike 5 Mile in LA. The only training I have done since then is run in the 5k Breast Cancer Run. Not really a vigorous training program.

Here is the ultra marathon training schedule. http://www.halhigdon.com/ultramarathon/schedule.html

I have decided instead to start with marathon training. Of course based on what I've read I am not ready for that either. So I am going to follow the advice on this website http://www.marathontraining.com They have what amoiunts to a 40 week training for a marathon. I am going to start with the 19 week training and see how I do. I haven't had a long term goal like this since college so it will be interesting to see if I can stick to it. Beginning Tuesday night January 2, 2007 I am going to be on my way. Three miles Tuesday night. This is going to be fun.

Ultramarathon Baby

I have decided that my goal for the next few years is to run an ultra marathon. The final goal is to run the Badwater race from Badwater, Death Valley to Mt. Whitney. 135 miles of complete joy. Unfortunately I need to run in some other ultra marathons before I can qualify to run in the badwater race. Look for me to update my training as the weeks, months and years go by.

Check out the race details here: http://www.badwater.com/

Day 1 of UM training:
Weight - 165
Todays exercise - 1 corona light

Quite a beginning...
